Celebrating Bristol's Recovery Choir.
As we reach the one year anniversary of 'Rising Voices' Bristol's Recovery Choir, we look back on some highlights from over the past year.
Rising Voices started life on 27th November 2014, under the direction of experienced choir leader and musician, Issi Freeth-Hale. Since then, we have created a unique space for people in recovery in Bristol to come together to sing, feel better, make friends and to create something beautiful.
"Singing together feels amazing. It’s good clean fun and totally free!"
Throughout our first year we've had over 40 people come along and give singing a go. Some have been first-time singers and others are revisiting a passion for the first time since finding their recovery. As well as the occasional people popping in, we now have a committed core group of between 8 and 13 people who come each week.
Rising Voices meets every Thursday, 5:30 - 7pm at The Unitarian on Brunswick Square (BS2 8PE) and is open to beginners.
This year we've had a one off Sea Shanty workshop and have had two guest choir leaders. We have also sung at the Brunswick Square cemetery Open Day in June, The Recovery Festival in September and the Hartcliffe Community Roundhouse in November. We've had to turn down many more invites to sing and have even been interviewed for our very own BBC News article.
This Christmas looks to be an even busier period for us! Throughout the festive season we will be singing at the Celebration of Life service on 5th December (Bereavement Through Addiction), BDP's Women’s Morning Christmas party on 16th December, BDP's Group Work Christmas celebration and the Rolls Royce employee Christmas lunch.
"It saved my life"
BDP are proud of what has been created over the past year and would like to thank Issi, Sophie and all the members for putting their hearts and souls into Rising Voices. We're looking forward to our many performances this December and for 2016, whatever it may hold for us.
If you would like to book Rising Voices for a performance next year or are interested in joining or promoting the choir and would like more information, please call Sophie on 0117 987 6015.
